Overview
River Islands is a master planned community, located along the San Joaquin River in Lathrop, Calif. The nearly 5,000-acre district offers several parks for its residents, including the Old River Neighborhood Park that features three new playgrounds – River Islands C-1, River Islands C-2 and Notomone Park. These recently constructed playgrounds feature SpectraPour poured-in-place rubber playground surfaces.
Key Challenges and Solutions
With thirteen lakes, acres of parks and open space, a trail along the San Joaquin River, lakeside restaurant, bocce courts, and more, the River Islands community is a very desirable place to live. Although there are many playgrounds in this community, the Old River Park playgrounds are unique, because of their playground surfaces.
The three SpectraPour systems installed have been used on thousands of projects throughout the U.S. and feature high-quality, poured, rubber safety surfaces. SpectraPour offers a wide variety of colors and allows for the creation of intricate and visually pleasing designs. The Old River Park playgrounds feature 5,952-square-feet of SpectraPour in a variety of beautiful colors and custom graphics, including vines, leaves, and water.
In addition to being attractive, SpectraPour's shock-absorbing qualities make it an ideal surface when specific critical fall height ratings are required. Because of its rubber composition, this surface is also very comfortable for any walking or standing application. Another added benefit of SpectraPour is that it permits ADA access.
The play equipment for this project was provided by Park Planet. Hale Construction served as the general contractor, and O’Dell Engineering was the civil engineer.
