Marshall Neighborhood Park

Overview

The city of Fremont, located in the San Franciso Bay Area of northern Calif., has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate that makes its parks accessible year-round. One of its more popular parks, the Marshall Neighborhood, features grassy areas, a baseball field, batting cage, swings, picnic area, restrooms, and playground. Due to its frequent use, the park was renovated in December 2023, and its playground now features SpectraPour Supreme surfacing.

Key Challenges and Solutions

The Marshall Neighborhood Park playground is a fantastic place for young kids to have fun! It features many amenities that are perfect for tikes. This includes small slides with climbing ropes that are a kid’s height; swings for babies, children, and those who are handicapped or disabled; and an ADA-accessible playground.

The scope of work for this project included the removal and disposal of the existing play equipment and an old poured-in-place synthetic safety surface, as well as the elimination, refurbishment, and replacement of picnic tables, barbecue grills, and trash receptacles. A decomposing granite surface was also restored.

The new SpectraPour Supreme playground surface features simple, circular graphics in green, gray, yellow, blue, and lime, and is comprised of the highest-quality rubber granules on the market! This surface was mixed on-site using a high density, small particle size (0.5-1.5 mm Spectra TPV granule) in the top layer combined with a UV-stable aliphatic binder and shock-absorbing rubber base pad. The result is the playground system of choice for critical fall areas in geographies known for extreme weather conditions, sunshine, and outdoor activities.

The upgraded play equipment and SpectraPour Supreme surfacing complement a large, shaded grassy area complete with a walking path and barbecue pits. The new playground equipment was provided by Gametime, Andrew Mayes City of Fremont served as the landscape architect, and the general contractor was Redwood Engineering for this project.
